She Knows What I Mean (revised)
By Mike Whiteley 11-19-19

v
The poet says his love is like a springtime rose
while it’s in bloom
I say the same thing when I wink at her and grin
from across a crowded room
The poet says “My love for you will burn
until the stars fall from the sky”
But, when we’re walking and I take her hand she knows
that everything will be alright

ch
I’m no poet and she knows it
But, she ain’t with me for my words
I know her and I show her, everyday
In my own way that I love her
Seems like I always hear “I love you so” when I turn on the radio
But, they’re just singing what they’re told to sing
No, she may not hear “I love you” near enough
But, she knows what I mean

v
When I wake up in the morning
I head for the coffee pot
I make her a cup just how she likes it
That may not sound like a lot
I do it every single day and it’s a simple way to say
What I know she needs to hear
Just a quiet little gesture
But, it’s good morning music to her ears

br
What we have just works for us, it’s not for everyone of course
But I bet we’re still together when the poets, have all filed for divorce
