Lyrics

Never Nashville
By Mike Whiteley
7-13-15

I spend my life just waiting for some good news
But, disappointment seems to rule most days
I try to write a song that ain’t about you
But, my heart just throws you in there anyway

I’ve played the bars for 15 years and counting
Sometimes I see your face out on the floor
Every time my phone rings I keep hoping
But, there’s only two calls that I’m waiting for

But, It’s never Nashville, It’s never you
It’s someone I don’t want to talk to, and it’s all that I can do
Not to scream and tell ‘em that I’m waiting for a call ….. or two
But, it’s never Nashville, it’s never you

Maybe I should just move on and stop this dreaming
Somebody big will sing the songs I write
But, when it comes to you who am I joking?
I guess some dreams are never meant to die

But, I’ll keep my cell phone paid up, turned on next to me
Praying that the right calls will come through
I always hope it’s you, or Tennessee
If I had to pick just one I don’t know what I’d choose

It’s never Nashville, It’s never you
It’s someone I don’t care to talk to, and it’s all that I can do
Not to hit the end call button so the right call can come through
But, it’s never Nashville, it’s never you

In my dreams you’re sitting with me, ‘cause you finally came back home
We hear the ring and both look down, it’s Nashville on the phone

It’s never Nashville, It’s never you
It’s someone I don’t care to talk to, and it’s all that I can do
Not to scream and tell ‘em that I’m waiting for a call ….. or two
But, it’s never Nashville, it’s never you

So everyday I’ll spend waiting for a call, or two
But, it’s Never Nashville, it’s Never you
